What is this? Ocular Surface Disease, or OSD, is a newer, more complete term for what used to be called “Dry Eyes.” Dry Eyes is a confusing name because one of the complaints of OSD is tearing. OSD is very common, though there may not be any symptoms at first. Common complaints from those with OSD include tearing, burning, fluctuating vision, gritty feeling, tired eyes and redness. There may be one ormore of these symptoms present.
OSD is a chronic condition that is not cured, but controlled, similar to diabetes or glaucoma. Therefore, it takes time for the doctor to find the right treatment to relieve your symptoms. It also takes patience for the patient to adhere to the treatment until it can be deemed successful. This usually takes approximately three months.
If you are suffering from any of the symptoms of OSD, please call and schedule an appointment for an OSD Evaluation with one of our Optometrists at 615-859- 3937.
